First on Facebook-School Board Candidate Responds to Claims He Will Be Absent as a Board Member

 First on Facebook

Cheyenne Luyao "I'd hate to vote for someone who isn't gonna be here and be an absentee board member." (Referring to School Board Candidate, Ruben Burmudez, Dist 2)

Here on IndianRiverPolitics.com, we keep an ear to the ground but an eye on social media. A regular feature we plan to bring to our readers is “First on Social” where  we break things that are happening on social media, and deliver them to your in-box or link to them in case you missed them.

Today in a closed group “Vero Beach Neighborhood”, someone asked for recommendations in the Indian River County School Board races.

One commenter made recommendations and called out Ruben Burmudez for missing two candidate forums and literally “phoning it in” for the TCpalm forum.

Several of Mr. Burmudez’s allies chimed in to support him explaining that he had pre-planned family events and that some of his absences were due to volunteering for charity.

Absentee

Cheyenne Luyao I'd hate to vote for someone who isn't gonna be here and be an absentee board member.

Phil Cominsky So he missed two forums both of which was due to family events he had planned before the forums were even scheduled and you hold that against him? The mission trip that he is planning is a whole other subject i am not going to defend because if you dont see that as a positive thing nothing i can say will change your mind.

Burmudez

Cheyenne Luyao "Not saying anything rude just said he has other priorities, it's a great thing and I'm glad him and his wife are doing it. But I'm looking for someone who's making our school board top priority"

After a bit of back-and-forth there was a light-hearted exchange with two Burmudez supporters joking about his “scary beard” and then the talk turned to Common Core, excessive testing, and other candidates being supported by members of the group.

Will Ruben Burmudez continue missing campaign events and will he be an "abesentee board member"? The voters will have to decide.

Early voting began in Indian River County today and continues through next Saturday the 25th  As of 7:45pm Aug18th,  7,990 ballots had been cast (7.16%)
